The economics and politics of halting illegal chainsaw milling

Illegal logging, through the activities of chainsaw operators, is among the driving factors to Ghana’s forest loss.
Sustainable forest management becomes a challenge whilst the country loses over 70million Ghana cedis annually in revenue from such activities.
A European Union funded initiative has explored alternatives to illegal sourcing of lumber for income generation and forest protection.
Kofi Adu Domfeh however reports that overcoming the challenge of chainsaw milling in Ghana is more of economic as it is political.
